Old straws may seem useless, but they can be great to use around the house, so if you’re only using them to sip a cool beverage then throwing them away, you’re missing a few tricks!
From unclogging a stubborn sauce bottle to untangling jewellery, here are five clever ways to put your drinking straws to work.
Droopy flower? Short stem? You can fix both these problems with a straw. All you need to do is place the short or droopy stem into the straw. The straw will prop up the stem, and also add length to ensure the perfect flower arrangement! Just opt for green straws if you can, or hide your use of the straws with some extra foliage.
Straws can be fantastic for keeping your jewellery untangled and protected when not being word. Simply thread a necklace through the straw and clasp it together to keep it untangled while it’s in your drawer or jewellery box. The plastic covering will also protect the necklace from damage, which makes it a great solution for travelling!
Hull strawberries easily (without slicing) by gently inserting a straw into the delicious fruit. Start at the pointy end and move the straw straight up, it’s that easy!
Leftovers are great, however if you’re going to eat them, it’s important to store safely. The best way to store leftovers is in an air-tight, resealable bag. If you don’t own a vacuum sealer, however, don’t fret – all you need to do, is put your food into a resealable bag and close the seal most of the way. Then, insert the straw into the bag before closing and suck as much air as you can from the bag.
While holding the suction (with your mouth), seal the bag, while quickly removing the straw. It’s a little tricky, but definitely worth the try.
Squirty sauce bottles can get clogged up pretty quickly! Without risking a mess by unscrewing the cap, you can easily unclog a sauce bottle by inserting a straw all the way into the bottle through the hole in the cap, and gently stirring to get the flow started – it’s that simple!
