About Claire Low

Claire Low was born in Port Lincoln, South Australia and grew up on a farm 7 miles out of town. The local school, while she attended, had between 25 and 35 students, with mostly one teacher, but with a second teacher for grades 1 to 3 when it had 35 students. Claire, her brother, and two sisters had much fun growing up on the farm, climbing trees, making cubby houses and helping out with the sheep work. On leaving school, Claire became a governess on various stations around Australia. She and her sister had a fun-filled working holiday in New Zealand in 1974. She had many varied jobs in the next five years, including working in a bakery, conducting Brucellosis testing on Eyre Peninsula, working in shearing sheds, before heading to Alice Springs, where she spent the next 20 years working for the Northern Territory Government. After that it was time to head to the Queensland coast at Hervey Bay and Claire has been ever since. Now she has retired, Claire is busier than ever and calls herself a social butterfly.
